Frequently Asked Questions
How does therapy work? What can I expect?
Everyone is unique. Because each person has different goals for therapy, it will look different depending on the individual. I tailor my approach to meet your specific needs. In your first few sessions, I will work to get to know you. I will help you identify your goals for treatment so we will both be on the same page about what success would look like to you.
How often will we meet and how many sessions will be necessary?
In the beginning, I recommend meeting weekly. Your individual needs will determine the length of our work together. As our work together progresses we will reexamine and reassess as necessary.
Why shouldn't I just take medication?
Medication can be effective, but it alone is not a cure all. Many times therapy is needed in conjunction with medication, as therapy is helpful in identifying and mitigating the root of your distress. If you or I believe medication may be beneficial, I will assist you in accessing a physician or psychiatrist for a medication evaluation.
What is the age range of clients you see?
I work with clients ages 18 and over.
Do you see clients virtually or in person?
I do both! You can see me virtually, in person, or a combination of the two. Your choice.
What are your credentials?
I am a licensed clinical professional counselor. I earned a master's degree in clinical counseling from National Louis University.
Tell me about your free consultation.
It's important for you to feel like you're making the best choice for yourself in finding a therapist. Generally, consultations last about 15 minutes via telephone. During this time I will tell you a little bit about myself and how I practice, I can answer any questions you have, or we can just chat and get a sense if there's a connection or not. The most significant part of this consult is determining if you feel like we would be a good fit.
Do you take insurance?
Yes. I am an in network provider with Blue Cross Blue Shield PPO, Blue Choice PPO, and UnitedHealthcare. Please refer to rates and insurance section for more complete information.
